Methodology
  • Routes connect each team's consecutive match cities with geodesic lines between stadium coordinates.
  • Consecutive matches in the same city stay in the timeline, but add 0 km and 0 CO2e.
  • Airport access, training bases, ground transfers, aircraft type and actual charter routing are not included.
  • CO2e is estimated as route distance times US EPA passenger-mile air-travel factors times a 53-person delegation assumption based on FIFA's final release list limit: up to 26 players and up to 27 team officials. Short-haul flights use a higher per-kilometre emission factor.
